A common pricing mistake
A 30% markup is not a 30% margin.
On $10,000 of cost, a 30% markup produces a $13,000 selling price and a 23.1% margin. A true 30% margin requires a selling price of approximately $14,285.71.
$1,285.71
That is the difference between those two pricing methods on only $10,000 of cost. On larger roofing projects, the misunderstanding compounds quickly.

Is the calculator a roofing price list?
No. It organizes your own cost and overhead information. It does not provide local material prices, labour rates or recommended market selling prices.
Does it work for both employees and subcontractors?
Yes. Direct production labour and subcontract installation costs can both be entered as project costs. The important part is classifying each expense consistently.
Which overhead method should I use?
The workbook includes both revenue-percentage and per-square methods. Use one method for a calculation, not both, and review the result against actual job-costing data.
What software is required?
The calculator is supplied as an Excel workbook. Confirm compatibility with your spreadsheet software before relying on formulas or formatting.
Does this replace accounting or estimating advice?
No. The workbook is educational and does not replace advice from an accountant, lawyer, tax professional, insurance broker, safety professional, estimator or local authority.
